A December Update

It has been a little while since my last update. Since then:

“Yellow Scare” has been 100% finished! We made the changes we felt we needed to after our screening, and we have submitted the movie to 24 film festivals throughout the world (so far). Cross your fingers for us.

We had a 1st makeup test for Isaac’s feature film “Monster Mash.” “Yellow Scare” hair & makeup artist, Morgan Cronheim, did the test with Jenna Kildosher (as a vampire) & yours truly (as a werewolf).

We hope to have more makeup tests in the future, followed by the filming of a trailer/sizzle reel for the movie to show to potential investors sometime next year.

Also in pre-production now is the first chapter in our horror anthology –  Isaac’s latest horror short “The Girl In The Basement,” a short about faith & possession. Isaac will also be directing with William R. Farley as his DP. Sami Saad as AC, Joey Mosca as Lights/Sound, and yours truly as AD & Editor. The film stars: Esther Akinsanya, Megan Bussiere, Eva Visco, Cassandra King, and Dan Gregory. We plan to shoot sometime in early 2018.

Also filming in early 2018 is Dan Gregory & Jenna Kildosher’s short comedy “The Last Rehearsal of the Dangerous Kitten. directed by William R. Farley & Sean Feuer, and starring: Isaac Platizky, Maglinda Perez, Jenna Kildosher, Sam Platizky, William R. Farley, and Dan Gregory.

And that is all for now. If you do not hear from Narrow Bridge beforehand, have a great holiday season & a happy new year!

What’s Next?

Our test screening for “Yellow Scare” is already a week in the past. So, what’s next for Narrow Bridge Films?

On the “Yellow Scare” front, we made a few adjustments based on what we (and others) saw at the test screening. So, thank you to everyone who provided us feedback. We will now be submitting the movie to film festivals throughout the world!!! (And we’ll be fulfilling a lot of our outstanding Indiegogo perks as well!)

And with “Yellow Scare” that marks the end of Phase 2 for Narrow Bridge Films.

What’s Phase 3? We had a meeting this past Wednesday with the Narrow Bridge Illuminati to discuss just that.

Phase 3:

“The Last Rehearsal of the Dangerous Kitten” – a short comedy written by Jenna Kildosher & Dan Gregory.

“Monster Mash” trailer – A trailer for Isaac Platizky’s next Feature Film.

“Untitled Horror Anthology Feature” – A feature length film with several horror shorts and a bookend story around them.

We discussed all of those things and are in the planning stages for them all.

Stay tuned to NarrowBridgeFilms.com and our Facebook and Instagram pages for more updates.

The Sounds of Laughter

test 01

There is a bit of fear every time that an audience sees your movie for the first time. What if people don’t like it? What if they don’t like this thing that came out of your head? With a comedy, you can tell right away whether or not people like it. The sound of laughter is a good thing. The sound of silence? Terrible.

Fortunately, for us, there was plenty of laughter at last night’s test screening of “Yellow Scare.” The reaction was very positive, and I can’t stress how amazing it feels to have the sounds of laughter fill a room filled with people who have never seen the movie before.

We had a great turnout. We didn’t sell out, but we did very well, especially for Frank Theatre’s largest auditorium that seats 300!

Test 02test 10

So, the test went well. It was an amazing night, and the awesome Hendrickson’s Corner kept the kitchen open for us to have ourselves a late dinner.

And so… We have a few things to look at/adjust based on the test screening, and then onto what comes next: FESTIVALS. Thanks to our large turnout and the people who purchased extra raffle tickets, we were able to pay off the theatre rental, program printing, and raffle prizes… And we still have a nice amount to get us submitted to some festivals.

As I said last night, the best way forward for this movie is the festival circuit and we are going to do our damnedest to get into as many as possible.

For anyone who is a part of this movie: THANK YOU. Thank you for taking this weird and wild and stressful journey with me.

For anyone who made it: THANK YOU. I hope you liked it.

For anyone who didn’t: Follow us here, on Facebook, and on Instagram for the latest updates on how you will be able to see the movie.

Stay tuned!

One Day More

1

In 2010, I had the crazy idea to make a feature length film with 0 producing or filmmaking experience. I wrote a script, and wanted to star in it and get it made. That’s all I knew. At the time, I wasn’t thinking about making any film beyond that one. I had a naive hope that once that film was out there, my career would be made.

That did not happen. But what did happen was the start of a group of friends who made movies together… And each one improved on what we did last. We made mistakes, sure, but we learned from those mistakes to make better and better films.

We are still learning… Learning what to do and what not to do. It’s an ongoing experience.

And tomorrow, we will be having a very special test screening for our latest feature film. The culmination of everything we have learned to this point. It is the biggest thing we have ever attempted, with special effects, professional color correction, amazing locations, and three musical numbers! All with our biggest and best cast & crew yet.

As a writer, I feel it is my best (and funniest) work yet. As a filmmaker, I think it is the best (and funniest) film we have made so far.

You don’t have to take my word for it though. Come see for yourself. Tickets are still available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/yellow-scare-test-screening-tickets-37949425754

Tickets will most likely still be available at the door. Tickets at the door will cost $20.

Ticket price includes:

  • Souvenir program
  • One free raffle ticket for a post-movie raffle of props and memorabilia.
  • Your first opportunity to see “Yellow Scare” on the big screen, along with trailers from upcoming projects and the world premiere of Joey Mosca’s “In the Blood” short film.
  • Post-movie Q&A with the actors & crew.

The doors open at 7pm, where you can pick your seat to the acoustic stylings of local artist Max Arias Jr. The program will begin at approximately 7:30pm.

The first 10 people in line will receive a limited edition signed and numbered copy of our original poster.

I hope to see you for this exclusive one-night-only event.

Narrow Bridge on Social Media

One thing we learned in our time at the American Film Market was that social media matters. Especially for a small, little known company like ours.

Distributors and larger companies want to know how many followers you have… They want to know how many views your videos get… These things matter.

So, if you haven’t already:

  • Like us on Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/NarrowBridgeFilms
  • Follow us on Instagram: @NarrowBridgeFilms
  • Watch the videos we have for free available on this page!
  • And share, share, share! Tell other people about us and tell them to do the same.

If you do those things, our numbers grow, and we look more attractive to the aforementioned distributors and larger companies. And when that happens, it means more and bigger opportunities for Narrow Bridge Films and the artists who work with us.

YS: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are some frequently asked questions from Narrow Bridge Films.

Question: WHEN CAN I SEE “YELLOW SCARE?”

Answer: Well, you can see a special test screening of “Yellow Scare” along with trailers for upcoming projects on Wednesday, October 25th at Frank Theatres in Bayonne, NJ.

Question: WHAT THE HELL IS A TEST SCREENING?

Answer: Well, we are very near completion on this film, but there may have been some things that we missed and some additional things that need tweaking. Seeing it on the big screen for the first time will be crucial to find any trouble spots. So, before we officially premiere the film and bring it to festivals, we are going to be watching it on the big screen to test everything, and we want YOU to join us to provide us with additional feedback for things we may have missed.

Question: GREAT. DO I HAVE TO BUY A TICKET?

Answer: Yes, you do have to buy a ticket. And you can do so here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/yellow-scare-test-screening-tickets-37949425754

Question: $18? THAT’S A BIT STEEP…

Answer: I know, but this is a one-time screening, and we need to bring in some money to pay the theatre for letting us screen there. Anything extra will go into our film festival fund to help us pay for film festival entries. PLUS, you are getting more than just the “Yellow Scare” test screening. You will be receiving a souvenir program, a raffle ticket for a giveaway at the end of the night, and you will also get an acoustic guitar performance as you enter, and some short commercials/trailers for upcoming projects from Narrow Bridge and friends… Plus, you’ll see the premiere of “In the Blood,” a short film by NBF regular Joey Mosca starring three people who are also in “Yellow Scare.”

Question: WOW. THAT IS A LOT. CAN I BUY TICKETS AT THE DOOR?

Answer: It is possible, but if we sell out beforehand, there may be no seats available. Plus, if you pay at the door, the charge is $20 rather than $18. Best to get your ticket in advance.

Question: DO I NEED TO PRINT MY TICKET OUT?

Answer: You can… But we are also putting everyone who buys a ticket on a list. So, don’t worry if you can’t print yours, or forget.

Question: WHAT TIME DOES EVERYTHING START?

Answer: The doors will open at 7pm. Seating is first come, first serve. From 7pm-7:30pm, there will be an acoustic set by local artist (and Narrow Bridge alum) Max Arias Jr. At 7:30pm, after a very brief introduction, we will start the show. After the movie, there will be a Q&A with the cast & crew, and a raffle for movie memorabilia and props from the movie.

The Official “Yellow Scare” Poster!

In 2012, I commissioned artist Steven Defendini (who would go on to become the “Yellow Scare” Production Designer) to paint a poster for “Red Scare.” I gave him a copy of the movie and stills for him to use as reference, and he turned in this beauty.

img_4260

Then, in 2015, as we were getting ready to begin crowdfunding “Yellow Scare,” I commissioned him to make one for “Yellow Scare.” Only this time, we didn’t have a single scene filmed or any stills. All we had were some of the cast! Even still, Steve did a kickass job and gave me this.

img_1877

A great painting… But there came to be problems… Andrew Darling (bottom left) had to leave the movie due to scheduling concerns, Dan’s character wound up not having a beard, Billy’s character (bottom right) wound up being bald, and Joey’s character (top right) didn’t have a goatee!

After we finished a few cuts of the film, I asked Steve if he could update the poster, and he said that he would. And he did! He replaced Andrew with Dante Sterling’s character Heinrich, and made the requested changes to the rest of the cast.

Then, the amazing Sami Saad (who was awesome on the “Yellow Scare” crew and has wound up directing and DP’ing several NBF projects since) came in and took the revised painting and turned it into a proper poster that you see here.

“Yellow Scare” Test Screening

CARTER

In 2010, I created a character called “Rex Steel” for a small scene in my first movie “Blaming George Romero.” He appeared briefly in a film within a film. Shortly before the test screening for that movie, my brother Isaac said that we should create a small teaser trailer for the film that Rex was in. We did. After that, I feverishly worked on a script that linked the scenes in the trailer together, and suggested that we film ANOTHER movie less than a year after our first.

“Red Scare” managed to improve on our first film in nearly every way. We won awards in Las Vegas & Honolulu and got more film festival attention than our first film. It was a great experience, and one of the most fun film experiences I have ever had. After returning from Las Vegas, I had an idea to work with these characters again… A prequel set during WWII. I had the general shape of the script in mind: the characters, the beginning, and the end. But I wasn’t able to get the script out of my head.

Then, in 2014, I did it. I somehow managed to crack the script and got a first draft and then a second… And then a third… And so on and so on… And it became the most ambitious project Narrow Bridge had ever attempted. New characters were added, new actors brought in to play them. New songs! A crew formed. And somehow, after a very intense shooting schedule, we completed production on the film in late May of 2016.

We’ve been in post-production ever since. As I type this, Joey Mosca (the head of the Narrow Bridge Audio Department) is finalizing the details of the audio of the movie. The movie looks and sounds phenomenal. I am so insanely proud of the work everyone did on this movie.

And on Wednesday, October 25th, you will get a chance to see what I am talking about as we will be having a test screening of the film at Frank Theatres in Bayonne, NJ. The doors will open to the public at 7pm. You will enter to the acoustic stylings of local artist Max Arias Jr. Following a very brief introduction, you will see trailers for our upcoming projects, a short horror film called “In the Blood,” and then the test screening of “Yellow Scare.” Afterwards, we will conduct a raffle for movie memorabilia and props from the film, and have a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/yellow-scare-test-screening-tickets-37949425754

A ticket includes a seat at the test screening, a souvenir program, and one raffle ticket. Please get yours as soon as possible. There is no guarantee that tickets will be available at the door. If there are tickets available, we will sell them, but if we sell out beforehand, that will be it. All ticket sales go towards the rental of the space, and the “Yellow Scare Film Festival Fund” to help us enter as many film festivals as we can.

It would mean a lot to me if you would be there at this very special test screening.

Yours,

Sam

End of August Update

As summer ends, here are just a few updates from Narrow Bridge Films:

  • A few weeks ago, Alex Gray completed color correction on “Yellow Scare.”
  • Dan Granda has been turning in music, and Joey Mosca continues his post-production audio work. (I’ve watched him and it is NOT easy work, let me tell you.)
  • Steven Defendini is working on an updated version of the “Yellow Scare” poster, which we will reveal a little bit later down the road.
  • Our most recent shorts: “Cupid’s First Day” and “Click Send” are taking a back seat while all that “Yellow Scare” work wraps up, but we do hope to have trailers for both alongside our first preview/test screening of “Yellow Scare,” which we hope to hold in mid-late October. Watch this space for more updates on that.
  • Finally, in two weeks, we will be having a small reading of Isaac Platizky’s “Monster Mash” feature film script, which should be a lot of fun. Stay tuned for pictures and maybe even some video from that.

Anyways, that is it for now. Can’t wait for you to see all of our exciting new projects.

Yours,
Sam Platizky, Founder
